barrycooperinterview sw sm Activist filmmaker Barry Cooper charged with impersonating a private investigatorTo describe the tale of former Texas drug cop Barry Cooper as "strange" is to make what observers could legitimately call, "an understatement."

Yet, thanks to actions by his former colleagues in Texas law enforcement, the wild odyssey of America's top drug war insurgent has just become even more bizarre.

Cooper and his wife Candi recently beat a charge of Making a False Report to a Peace Officer in Odessa, Texas, where in Dec. 2008 they tricked local police to raid a fake marijuana grow operation as part of a reality show pitch.

On Thursday, August 26, just two days after Odessa declined to prosecute the charge, officers with the Texas Department of Public Safety arrested Barry in a SWAT-style operation outside his home in south Austin. He was charged with Operating an Investigations Company Without a License, a Class A misdemeanor carrying a maximum penalty of one year in prison. Offenses in this category are policed by The Texas Department of Public Safety Private Security Bureau.

"Police approached me with tires screeching, full body armor and guns drawn," Cooper said Thursday, appearing on the Texas Capitol steps to record a video blog and press statement. "Within minutes I was placed in the back of an unmarked unit and rushed away. I really believed I was going to be shot and it felt more like an abduction than an arrest."

In all his time creating video content opposed to prohibition, Cooper has, to this reporter's knowledge, never made himself out to be a private investigator. He likes to use the term "journalist" in describing his work, while other media calls him a "filmmaker" or an "activist."

Texas law describes a "journalist" as ...

[A] person, including a parent, subsidiary, division, or affiliate of a person, who for a substantial portion of the person's livelihood or for substantial financial gain, gathers, compiles, prepares, collects, photographs, records, writes, edits, reports, investigates, processes, or publishes news or information that is disseminated by a news medium or communication service provider [...].

Inasmuch as Cooper's primary source of income is derived from his Web site and the public distribution of information about police activities, it would seem his business clearly falls under the legal definition of journalism, no matter the positions he ultimately advocates.

Still: "From a law enforcement perspective, I'd want to see [Cooper] prosecuted by any means possible," a senior Bush administration source recently commented on background to RAW STORY, conferring on Barry's bizarre story.

All circumstances considered, "by any means possible" certainly seems to be the case here.

"It's like they think I'm Al Capone and they've got me for tax evasion or something," Cooper told RAW STORY, shortly after being released on a $10,000 bond.

The warrant for Barry's arrest was signed in Williamson County, where he is facing a separate charge of Making a False Report to a Peace Officer, for a series of so-called "bag drops" he executed, hoping to catch an officer stealing what was made to look like drug money.

He claimed to have done just that, filming an officer in Liberty Hill allegedly disposing of Cooper's "suspicious package" but keeping the $45 hidden within. After the Texas Rangers said they investigated the case and found no reason to charge the officer with any wrongdoing, Cooper was sued for slander and libel.

On this latest charge, Cooper is appealing to the American Civil Liberties Union for help, suggesting his prosecution under this statute could constitute an attack on independent, citizen-run media. The charge of impersonating a private investigator, he alleges, could be applied to any activist, journalist, filmmaker or blogger who upsets authorities by chronicling police activities.

Cooper believes his prosecution may tie in to the ACLU's current stable of cases in which citizens were detained or arrested simply for filming police. In recent years, citizen activists have been prosecuted under wiretapping laws after they filmed officers without their knowledge. In these cases, the charges leveled often carry penalties much more severe than what Cooper faces.

"It's odd the police continue promoting their right to film the general public, but attempt to limit the public's right to film them," said Eric Ellison, an activist with the Austin Police Accountability Coalition. "It's clear that America's law enforcement is trying to promote an unleveled playing field, which stems from their desire to be held unaccountable. This is the reason the police are continually arresting the Coopers."

I think what makes me the most angry it that the people who made this drink and the other like it are capitalizing on peoples sensational stupidity and gullibility in order to trick them into thinking a product with a hemp leaf will get them high. Its a outrage in my opinion and false advertising. Plus it only serve to tarnish hemp products and provided a means for the usa propaganda machine to use scare tactics on the brain dead workerbots.

Well heres a pic from about 2 week before harvest on my 3rd run. It turned out pretty good, minus end weight. I guess its expected, my power was shut off for about a week when it was really hot. I wasn't able to pay the bill, and all the while I was running lights and an ac unit. During that week the plants were in front of a window with a white sheet over it, and i'm also guessing the natural daylight hours were more than 12, seeing it was july in MI. Either way the bud turned out amazing. I had a cross someone gave me of what he called "walter cronkite". Maui Waui, super lemon haze(just finished 3 days ago). Stella blu 1&7 and afgan goo.


Since I can't talk to anyone around here about growing i'll have to rant here, but i'll get to the point.

I have some question about setting up my hydro system. I'll go over what I have so far.
2x 1000 watt hps. No longer using the 1000 dual arc.
400 watt mh.
Spare bedroom, seperated into two sealed rooms. I have a 750btu ac in the flowering room, with the two hps lights. I'm using the ac until we can buy a canfan. I also have fresh air ducts for both grow areas. I put plastic over walls, floor, and ceiling.

My plan:
32 flowering plants, harvest 4 per week. I'm confused slightly about running this operation in a perpetual state. If I use 2 weeks for the clone to take, 2 weeks in veg, 8 weeks flowering. Does this mean i'll only need 8 plants at any one time in the veg room, not counting clones?? I'm not really sure why this is confusing me so much. I want to harvest 2 ounces per plant, resulting in 2 pounds a month. I've yet to grow enough to even scratch the surface of my use, including my close friends and family whom I LOVE to provide free herbs to.

I'm thinking about using 10' square pots filled with expanded clay. The plants would go directly into the pots after they root as clones. My question is about watering ect. Can I have a constant flow of solution via top feed into these pots, and have the solution drain into a res? Or do i have to use a schedule, like 10 mins ever hour ect. And if I do that, do I want 20 % drain off? I've read the entire hydro section twice in Jorge Cervantes' "marijuana horticulture: the indoor outdoor growers bible". But am still confused on these things.

I think i'm all set on ph, EC, temp ect. for the reservoir, and how to keep them in check. I've also done plumbing on the side for many years. My dad is a master plumber and i've got the trade down pretty good. Can I use glued and primed cpvc to transfer solution from res to plant? Would a sterile sump pump work to supply nutrients? What about a sump bucket for a res? everything about that seems like it would be perfect. I can insulate it heavily and then put it flush into the floor. What about size of res? How do you figure out how much water to use?

Also, how often do I check the ph, ec, ect? Even if I don't use a reservoir this time, I want to make sure I know what i'm doing in the future.

Cannabis plants found in Poulton Police said the seizure would disrupt local supplies

Police have found 168 cannabis plants in a raid on a house in Lancashire.

Officers who searched the house in Blackpool Old Road, Poulton, on Tuesday found a cannabis factory spanning three rooms, with growing equipment.

No-one was in the house at the time but an investigation is under way to find those responsible.

Insp Nigel Greenwood described it as "an extensive set up" and said the seizure would cause disruption to the local supply chain.

He said: "Drugs and drug dealing blight our local communities and we are dedicated to tackling this problem, along with the associated crime that can occur as result of drug abuse.

"I would urge anyone with information about drugs to contact officers so that we can take positive action."

I've got a problem with my iolite where I can't unscrew the first part of the stem anymore. I want to get the condenser out, as most of you guys say it seems to be better without it. But try as I might it appears that the thread is stuck shut with sticky vapor resin. The screen has become quite blocked too, as it hasn't been cleaned out since I got the unit a month or so ago, but I don't see how I can get it out without pushing it down from the top like the manual shows.

The only thing I can think of is trying to clean the upper part of the chamber somehow and hopefully loosen it. On the latest dopecast DF mentioned that using alcohol on the iolite might be a bad idea. What else could I soak it in to try and loosen the stem?
